On Wednesday 23 September, a public holiday in Japan, UK Sauna in Ichijodaki takes place at Ichijodaki Falls. It is planned and run by UK Sauna, a student group at Fukui Prefectural Usui High School, and hosted by the Ichijodaki Tourism Association. Yume Sozo Asuwakai, the organiser of Echizen Asakura Mantouya, is among the supporting organisations.
Mantouya candlelight comes to the falls
One of the highlights is billed as Asakura Mantouya meets sauna. The same candle cups used at Mantouya will be set out around the sauna at Ichijodaki. It is a day spent to the sound of falling water, deep in the valley of Ichijodani, the site now working towards World Heritage inscription.
The high school students themselves fan the heat as aufguss attendants. There is a quiz rally for children, so family members who are not going into the sauna can enjoy the day too, and the fee includes local food alongside the sauna.
