We are looking for volunteer staff for “Echizen Asakura Mantouya 2026,” an event that lights up the Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins — a nationally designated Special Historic Site — with 15,000 candles.
Come help create a summer night together, surrounded by the history and culture of the Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins, a treasure of Fukui City.
Light up Ichijodani with your own hands
Echizen Asakura Mantouya is a summer evening event that bathes the Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins, a nationally designated Special Historic Site, in the magical glow of about 15,000 candles.
The event is supported by volunteer staff known as “Akaribito” (lantern keepers).
In 2026 we are again seeking Akaribito to help create the Ichijodani night. Building the event together with local residents in this historic setting is sure to become an unforgettable summer memory.
First-timers are very welcome.
*This call is open to high school students and older.

What You’ll Do
On the day, we’ll ask you to help with the tasks below. No special skills or experience are required. Staff work together and support one another, so you can join with peace of mind.
- Helping with visitor reception
- Setting up the guide candles
- Preparing for lighting
- Putting out candles and collecting used cups
- Keeping the venue tidy
- Other event support tasks
Before You Join
Transportation
Please arrange your own transportation to the venue.
If you use public transportation, travel costs are at your own expense.
Insurance
The organizer enrolls all participants in volunteer activity insurance, covering the unlikely event of an accident or injury during the activity, so you can take part with peace of mind.
For Guardians
This is a volunteer activity aimed at community building.
As part of the activity takes place at night, we ask for the understanding and consent of guardians.
High school students need guardian consent to apply.
