Venue Area Guide

From this year's giant character drawn in candlelight to the food stalls, here is your guide to the venue. We will share details as they are decided.

The layout of this year’s giant character and the food stalls is still being finalised. We will publish a venue map as soon as it is decided.

An ink painting exhibition, right beside the venue

Just beside the south entrance of the Restored Townscape, the Asakura Gallery is holding “The Asakura Clan × Miroku” ink painting exhibition. It runs from 2 August to 31 August, and admission is free.

The centrepiece is Wrapped in the Night of Ten Thousand Lanterns, a painting of the Mantouya night that won the Fukui Prefectural Board of Education Award at the 50th Fukui Prefecture Ink Painting Association Exhibition.

The gallery is open from 9:00 to 17:00. Mantouya begins in the evening, so you can look in during the day and stay on for the lights. Read more here.

A local set meal before Mantouya, at Asakura Mizu-no-Eki

At Michi-no-Eki Ichijodani Asakura Mizu-no-Eki, which is also a shuttle bus stop, a seven-dish meal made with local ingredients is served on two days only: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August. It costs 2,800 yen per person (tax included) and includes an advance ticket for Mantouya. Reservation required.

After eating you can board the shuttle bus there and head straight to the venue. Read more in this article.
